Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
